(Munich, Germany / March 18, 2025) – Menopause isn’t the end of great sex, it’s a new beginning, and Beducated CEO and certified sex coach Mariah Freya is on a mission to shatter the outdated belief that intimacy fades with age.
According to Beducated’s 2024 Sex Report, which surveyed over 2,200 people, women over 40 report higher sexual satisfaction than younger age groups. The key? Understanding how the body changes—and embracing new ways to experience pleasure.
“This myth needs to die. Menopause changes sex, but it doesn’t end it,” says Freya. So what’s really happening during menopause? Freya explains: “Estrogen and testosterone levels drop dramatically, which can make desire feel like a distant memory, and vaginal tissue becomes thinner and less elastic, leading to vaginal dryness that makes sex feel uncomfortable, and even painful.”
She also notes that “blood flow to the genital area gets slower, which reduces sensitivity and makes arousal harder to achieve,” and that “your body’s sexual response slows down, requiring more time and different kinds of stimulation.”
Despite these changes, Freya emphasizes that a fulfilling sex life is absolutely possible with the right tools and mindset. Her advice:
- Embrace the power of lubrication. Water-based lubricants help with dryness, reduce friction, and enhance sensation.
- Rediscover your body’s new pleasure map. As the body changes, so do pleasure points. Self-pleasure and experimenting with different sensations, pressures, and toys can help identify what feels good.
- Prioritize intimacy beyond penetration. “Penetration can sometimes be uncomfortable and painful,” says Freya. “Our research shows that 70% of people don’t need penetration every time to feel satisfied, so foreplay and other forms of connection can be just as fulfilling.”
