Princess Cruises will give guests an opportunity to bid on upgraded accommodations.
Starting Sept. 6, Princess will send an invitation email to guests who have paid in full to bid on any stateroom category that is above the one they bought, including mini-suite and full suite.
Princess Cruises president John Padgett said the goal is to “deliver a process that lets guests improve their stateroom category by making an offer that fits their budget and lifestyle.”
Upgrades will be available initially on five North America-based ships — Caribbean Princess, Discovery Princess, Enchanted Princess, Regal Princess and Ruby Princess. The cruise line plans to make the program available fleetwide by the end of October.
The cruise line said making bids on multiple staterooms will increase guests’ chances of being upgraded. If the bid is accepted, guests will be charged for the upgrade.
The bid is priced per person and based on two guests per stateroom for the length of the cruise. Third and fourth guests in a stateroom are upgraded without additional cost.
On cruises of six to 14 days, the final payment is due 90 days prior to departure, and the upgrade bidding opens 85 days prior to departure.
