CHATSWORTH, Calif.—Adult industry trade group the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) posted an advisory to its website Thursday for industry stakeholders concerning the lawsuits filed earlier this month in Kansas against four adult websites for violating the state’s law requiring such sites to verify the ages of visitors.
“This is the first known lawsuit filed by a private party on the basis of a state age verification law,” the advisory notes. The total amount of damages sought between the four lawsuits is approximately $14 million, and FSC warns website operators: “If your website is accessible in the state of Kansas, or other states that have passed age-verification laws, you may be at risk, particularly if you are not employing ‘commercially reasonable’ age-verification protocols.”
