LOS ANGELES—Amazon censored product listings from a vaginal health brand due to the products being “potentially embarrassing,” according to a report by Wired.
Published Friday morning, the report details the claims of Tara Langdale-Schmidt and her company, VuVatech, that Amazon shut down VuVa listings on the platform, classifying them as “adult” content.
VuVa is a product line designed to soothe pelvic and vaginal pain and discomfort, according to Langdale-Schmidt. She characterized Amazon’s “adult” rules as “prudish.”
Amazon also blocked VuVatech from applying a coupon code to a product listing because the automated system marked the item as “potentially embarrassing or offensive.”
“We just have to stop this insanity with being embarrassed about things,” Langdale-Schmidt told Wired senior writer Paresh Dave.
“There’s no difference from your vagina than your ear, your nose, your mouth. It is another place on your body, and I don’t know how we got to this point where it’s not okay to talk about it. I just don’t get it.”
